WOMEN IN ENERGY: Adele Mayeaux

March 13, 2020

In celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, LAGCOE is highlighting women who have been instrumental supporters of our organization.

Meet Adele Mayeaux!

How long have you been working for the energy industry?

15 years, including part time in college.

In what ways has the energy industry had a positive impact on your life and career? Are you happy that you chose this industry?

The Energy Industry has had lots of ups and downs and I’ve learned to keep looking forward and to not dwell on any current high or low spikes.

What would you say to young girls today who are considering pursuing a STEM-centric career?

I would encourage anyone who is curious about the way the world works to indulge that desire to learn by pursuing education in STEM. Men and women who have the potential, ability, and drive can impact and enrich the world around them by building careers in STEM industries.

Did you ever feel like you were at a disadvantage as a woman in a male-dominated industry? How did you overcome that?

Yes, early in my career it was somewhat difficult to get people to trust me (which is probably true of anyone beginning a career). To overcome any gender-specific hurdles, I just did my best to act like everyone else. I didn’t expect special treatment and worked just as hard if not harder than everyone around me.

How are you helping pave the way for other fellow women in the energy industry?

I am trying to be the best at my job. I feel that if people witness women performing their jobs well, there will be less chance for stigma surrounding women in the workplace.
