2020 FEP Scholarship Recipients

May 13, 2020

From the one hundred students who applied to attend the LAGCOE 2019 FEP Tour, seventy-six were selected to attend our biennial technical exposition and conference. Once the LAGCOE 2019 FEP Tour ended, the attendees, were given a chance to apply for a scholarship.

Started in 2014 by the Young Professionals of LAGCOE, the FEP scholarship is awarded every other year to students who are juniors or seniors at a Louisiana high school, who attended the LAGCOE FEP Tour, and who plan to pursue a degree in a STEM field at Louisiana university of college.

The scholarship awards each recipient up to $1,000 per semester while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a four-year Louisiana university or up to $825 per semester while pursuing a technical degree or certificate at a two-year Louisiana community college or technical school.

LAGCOE is proud to announce this year’s FEP Scholarship winners: Laelah Credeur, Lafayette Christian Academy; William Duke, University Laboratory School; and Logan Paul, Central Private.

Laelah Credeur,

Lafayette Christian Academy (https://www.lafayettechristianacademy.com/)

“The ability to identify your true passion will only impact your life if you act upon your newfound purpose.”

Laelah Credeur is a junior at Lafayette Christian Academy who plans to attend Louisiana State University and pursue Biological Science Doctorate and Secondary Teaching. “In the past, I was certain that my passion was the study of biology, but what I truly desire is to aid others in comprehending the concepts that I was so enthralled by," Credeur said. “As a teacher, I will be provided the privilege of giving back to Louisiana and impressing a love of knowledge in others. Most importantly, I will be given the privilege of assisting others in discovering and embracing their passion, just like a teacher once guided me."

Laelah has volunteered at the St. Joseph Diner and the annual Buddy Walk of Acadiana. She has helped coordinate her church's worship team and is a member of the media team. She also teaches Sunday School and helps lead the church small groups. While remaining actively involved in her community and extracurricular activities, Laelah has also been on the principal’s list for 3 years, won the SALTS Counselor Character Award, and placed first in the school spelling bee. She has also been involved in Beta, 4-H, Book Club, LCA Pray Club, and National Honor Society.

William Duke,

University Laboratory School  (https://www.uhigh.lsu.edu/)

“I have always enjoyed trying to creatively figure out math and science problems.”

William Duke is a senior at University Laboratory School who plans to attend Louisiana State University and A&M (LSU) to pursue Chemical Engineering or Computer Science. “After attending the LAGCOE conference and technical exposition last fall, I realized there are many more uses for computer science in the oil and gas field than I originally thought, and there will be plenty of options to stay and work in Louisiana. While I do not have my career totally mapped out at this juncture of my life, I am certain it will be in a STEM related field, and that I will become a productive member of society, using my skills to help others,” Duke said.

Duke is an Eagle Scout, was selected to represent his high school at the London International Youth Science Forum, is in the National Honor Society, and was recognized as the 9th grade superior performer for science at State and District Literary rally for Biology. He has also played in the Baton Rouge Soccer Club and was a member of the Beta Club. He has volunteered for mission trips, Vacation Bible School, the Battered Women’s Shelter, and numerous Boys Scouts of America community service projects.

Logan Paul,

Central Private (https://www.centralprivate.org/)

“I hope to one day provide for and raise my family like my parents raised me.”

Logan Paul is a senior at Central private who plans to attend Baton Rouge Community College and pursue Process Technology (PTEC). “My future plans include beginning at BRCC to obtain a degree in the PTEC program. BRCC is close to my home and I will be able to save money and work while I attend college. After graduating, I plan to begin working and pursue a higher degree in business or engineering,” Paul said.

Paul played shooting guard for the Central Private basketball team for four years and served as Captain during his Junior and Senior years. He has been on the track team for two years, running 800m relay and M/High jump. He was the offensive player of the year for the basketball team in 10th grade, and first team all-district basketball in the 11th and 12th grades. He also won the captain’s award in the 11th grade. Logan has volunteered at Vacation Bible Schools, Mighty Moms Food Pantry, and the CP Basketball Camp.

Since its inception, the FEP scholarship has been awarded to a total of nine Louisiana students. The scholarship is vetted by the Future Energy Professionals Scholarship Committee, a committee managed by the Young professionals of LAGCOE and supported by the LAGCOE Education Fund, a Fund at the Community Foundation of Acadiana.
